Get Exceptional Treatment for Gum Recession

The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST®), was invented and patented by John Chao, D.D.S. It is a scalpel-free, suture-free procedure for treating gum recession.

At Steliotes Dental Spa, we make a small hole with a needle in the gum tissue. The gum tissue is loosened and guided over the receded part of the tooth with specially designed instruments.

Most patients also are pleasantly surprised by the instant cosmetic improvement since there is no incision or suturing. Patients can expect minimal post-operative discomfort (pain, swelling and bleeding). To learn more, contact us today.

FAQs

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • What is gum recession?

Loss of gum tissue along the gumline. Can occur as a result of periodontal disease (gingivitis, periodontitis, advanced periodontitis), the natural aging process, or abrasive habits when brushing the teeth.

  • Why should gum recession be taken seriously?

When gum recession occurs, the root structure of the tooth becomes exposed. Tooth decay and other problems can affect the teeth along the gumline and under it. Getting gum recession treated is important for lasting dental health.

  • What is Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique?

The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique is a minimally invasive option that treats gum recession. PST is scalpel and suture-free.

All tools and techniques used to perform the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique were created by Dr. John Chao.

  • How does Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique differ from traditional gum grafting?

Traditional gum recession treatment involves the use of donor tissue or soft tissue grafts to rebuild the gumline. This soft tissue would be sutured in place and join with existing gum tissue as it healed. While this grafting treatment is effective, better patient experience can be achieved through the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique.

  • How is Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique performed?

During treatment, a needle is used to make a small hole in the existing gum tissue. Through this pinhole, special instruments are used to loosen the gum tissue. These tools help expand and slide the gumline to cover the exposed root structure. No grafts, sutures, and no incisions are needed with the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique. It involves the adjustment of the existing tissue.

  • What are the benefits of Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique?

Less discomfort for the patient after treatment.

    Faster recovery than traditional grafting.

    No need for sutures.

No need for scalpels or invasive surgical tools.

No need for donor tissue from the patient's palate.

    Natual and long-lasting results.

"I’ve been coming to Steliotes Dental Spa for a couple of years now. Dr. Ted has been great as far as making the most appropriate recommendations for my oral health. Most recently, I underwent the pinhole procedure in office. Prior to coming to Steliotes Dental Spa, I was pressured to have a gum graft for my receding gum line. Dr. Ted never pressured, but explained that this is a less- invasive alternative with a quicker recovery. It took some time, as I have anxiety when it comes to the dentist. I’m one week post op and blown away by my results. Pain was very minimal, post op care easy to follow. I’m thrilled with the result and very happy to say that there will not be a gum graft in my future! Dr. Ted and his staff are great, I don’t have any nerves when coming here. I highly recommend for routine dental care and the pinhole procedure!!"
